Frequently Asked Questions
Does my building project have to be completed in order to register?
Since the awards program has been on hiatus, this year’s program will have a longer look-back – 5 years. Project entries must be works that have achieved substantial completion as of January 2020. Future award programs will have a three year look-back.
Do I need to have everything ready before I fill out the form to register either a project or nominate someone for an award?
No, you do not. We have transitioned to a new online portal this year to improve the submission process. Once you complete the registration form (only takes a few minutes), you will receive instructions on how to log-into the portal to complete your submission. The portal is designed to automatically save progress on your submission. You will have an opportunity to review the entire submission before hitting ‘final submit’. You have until Saturday, January 31, 2026 to complete and submit your entry and until April 17th, 2026 to complete and submit your display board.
Does my building project have to be certified to be entered?
No, certification is not required. We provide an expansive list of multiple certifications so you may indicate whether a project is inspired, pending, or has earned final certification(s).
What location-based eligibility requirements exist for project submissions?
All Connecticut-based and led project teams are eligible to submit their projects regardless of project location, and all projects located in Connecticut regardless of the location of the project team members are eligible to submit.
Are building performance metrics mandatory for submission?
No, but building performance metrics such as predicted or actual energy usage are highly encouraged and will enhance the submission by quantifying performance.
Who judges the project submissions and nominations for award recognition?
- Project submissions & student design submissions: Reviewed and selected by an independent jury composed of professionals/practitioners who represent different areas of expertise within the built environment.
- Judy Swan Green Advocate Nominees: Reviewed and selected by an independent jury.
- TrailBlazer Nominations: Reviewed and selected by the BuildGreenCT Board of
Directors.
- Community Choice Award – New this year. All submitted projects will be on display before the awards program and all attendees will have the opportunity to cast their vote for their favorite project using their smart phone. The winning project will be recognized during the awards program presentation.
Who is responsible for making the display board for my project?
BuildGreenCT Green Building Impact Award Committee members will retain a professional printer to print the PDF identified in your submission for use in the event and will clip it to a dry board for display at the event. A $25 fee will be charged for printing, assembling, transport and displaying the board on an easel at the event. You may keep the display board or printed material (but not the easel) by taking it with you when leaving the 2026 Green Building Impact Award Event.
Will award winners be notified ahead of time?
Yes, award winners will be notified ahead of time so that clients, project team members, family, and friends can be in attendance. A professional photographer will post photos taken of the award teams after the event for your use.
Does my submission include a ticket to the award program?
No, registration for your ticket(s) for attending the program will be sold separately.
