This Month’s Guest:

Brandon Mark

City of Stamford, CT

Energy Engineer & Sustainability Manager

Brandon began his work in renewable energy in 2013 as a Research Assistant in the Department of Physics at SUNY Geneseo. In that role, he applied core physics principles to the study of renewable energy systems, using experimental methods to evaluate performance and inform practical applications. He earned his B.S. in Applied Physics in 2016 and went on to complete his M.S. in Sustainable Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology in 2019, where his graduate research focused on thin-film solar collector technologies as scalable, low-cost solutions for agricultural use in developing regions.

After graduate school, Brandon joined Avangrid Inc. (based in Orange, CT), a major U.S. energy company serving New England and New York. There, he served as a Senior Energy Engineer and Program Manager, overseeing the commercial and industrial new-construction and major renovation incentive programs. He managed project pipelines, incentive budgets, technical review, and cross-stakeholder coordination.

In late 2023, Brandon transitioned to the municipal sector and became Stamford’s Energy Engineer & Sustainability Manager. His responsibilities span all aspects of the city’s energy and climate goals: streetlight upgrades, solar deployment, EV charging networks, energy supply procurement, demand response programs, building electrification, and capital facility projects. He also leads grant development, drafts energy-related procurement documents, and ensures compliance with evolving federal, state, and local legislation.

Outside his municipal role, Brandon chairs the Milford Energy Advisory Board, a volunteer organization supporting the City of Milford’s energy efficiency and decarbonization efforts.
