Kai Starn is a senior sustainability consultant at Steven Winter Associates (SWA) in Norwalk and has been in the field for over ten years. He is fortunate to be surrounded by opportunities to work on the things that are important to him by participating in community working groups and his day-to-day duties. However, his interest in the built environment goes beyond certifications, and he is passionate about green construction, getting to zero-carbon, and material life cycles. He believes we must support all groups in building and sustaining a rich, satisfying world for all living beings.
Outside of the office, he is a hobby timber framer and loves to build with natural materials. Besides building a timber frame and cob Bunkie in Ontario, he occasionally helps a local crew with barn raises and seemingly likes heights and big hammers. He assisted the historic Seaside Village with a resiliency plan and presented it at NESSBE 2019. He follows Resilient Bridgeport and advocates for Seaside Village and other groups such as Groundwork in the South End.
