Managing Organization: US Green Building Council

LEED is the most mainstream green building rating system. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design. The rating system consists of a series of credits that add up to the level of achievement. LEED is helpful because it provides a checklist of sustainable strategies that can be used on a building project, and it requires documentation that a project has incorporated those strategies. It has specialty options for the unique needs of each project type and region.

LEED has the following categories

  • Integrative Process
  • Location and Transportation
  • Sustainable Sites
  • Water Efficiency
  • Energy and Atmosphere
  • Materials and Resources
  • Indoor Environmental Quality
  • Innovation
  • Regional Priority
