Building on the Hardhat Tour, Jason Jewhurst, FAIA, Partner, and Principal at Bruner/Cott Architects, will present on Yale University’s first net-positive graduate housing complex project at Yale Divinity School (YDS). Jason will be joined by John Paul “JP” Mancuso, Assoc. Director of Project Management, Central Campus, Yale Facilities; and Jan Koch, Sr. Project Manager, Shawmut Design & Construction. The Living Village at YDS is designed to meet the rigorous performance standards of the Living Building Challenge, including regenerative design strategies to achieve net-positive performance for energy use, water consumption and reuse, and retention.
When complete, the Living Village will be the largest living-building residential complex on a university campus and is recognized as a key building project supporting Yale’s climate action strategy and goals.
Attendees will be able to:
- Explore how regenerative architecture and systems design can create positive outcomes for occupants’ health and wellbeing through indoor air quality, access to daylight, fresh air and provide a vibrant social environment.
- Learn how net-positive water systems (rainwater capture and wastewater reclaim) and design can shape landscape, restore the health of local watersheds, and contribute to education and awareness of local and regional water resources.
- Understand how sustainable, ecological landscapes can provide 100% accessibility and create outdoor spaces and habitats for humans and nature as well as robust ecological habitats in urban neighborhoods.
- Deepen understanding of design strategies utilized by the YDS team to achieve high-performance, low embodied carbon construction and healthy materials approach to achieving the Living Building Challenge Materials Petal and removing chemical toxins from the construction process.
