Anthony J. Stark, AIA, Leed AP, PHIUS Associate

“I strive to not just be less negative but to be a +POSITIVE+ impact.”

Tell us about where you work.

Perkins Eastman is a global architecture and design firm guided by the belief that design can have a positive and lasting impact on people’s lives. If everything is design, everything we do is HUMAN BY DESIGN.

What is your role in sustainability?

I work within my company to educate our teams about material health, human comfort, resiliency, and community. I work with our teams so that our projects can reduce that 40% of global GHG emissions.

My personal philosophy concept is that I am connected to the land and that I am just a small part in the life cycle, but that my small part has one of the greatest impacts on the earth.

I strive to not just be less negative but to be a +POSITIVE+ impact.

What’s your Why?

BuildGreenCT has a very diverse community of designers, builders, and companies that have a breadth of experience to learn from. I enjoy being a member of a group that shares my values in design and environment, and appreciate their efforts in continued education for our community.

Can you showcase a project for us?

I am really excited about the work I am doing with Bassick High School in Bridgeport CT. The project will be completed this fall and is pursuing LEED Silver.

We emphasized biophilic design principals and resiliency in all aspects of our design as well as an efficient building envelope and utility systems.

Tell us about your hobbies.

I will be testing for my third degree black belt in Taekwondo later this year. I have taken my sons on different trips to Senegal and Malawi to help build schools in rural areas of some of the poorest countries in the world. I also volunteered as a Scout leader for several years until my sons grew out of the program.

Fun Fact:

Our extended family goes to Hershey Park every year and every year we all wear the same custom made t-shirts.
