Tell us about your work.

Trillium Architects Co-operative was founded in 2004 with the mission of designing beautifully and sustainably, but — equally — of making economical, healthy homes available to all.

What’s your role in sustainability?

TAC was one of the very first sustainable (Green) architecture firms in CT. Early adopters of LEED, Passive House, Net Zero and LBC, we lead by example. We teach other architects, builders, municipalities and the public that building for maximum sustainability is not only easy, but that it does not cost more, and it is a mindset that we all must adopt.

What’s your why?

I have been a member of BuildGreenCT and CTGBC for 20 years. I joined because I found a group of like-minded mission driven people who were facing the same challenges that we were on a daily basis. We are all truly fighting the good fight. Doing it together makes all of the difference. This network is a constant source of support, advice and answers.

Tell us about a project you are proud of.

We specialize in Passive House and Net Zero homes. We have helped many clients reach this lofty goal. Aside from our single-family home work, we also have a modular company (SEED Homes) that sells modern smaller Net Zero homes and we are working on a few multi-family Net Zero, affordable developments.

What motivates you?

As for many of us, nature motivates me. When I work in my garden, swim in a lake, climb a mountain or just drive on our congested streets, the flora and fauna are always showing us what is changing, and what is needed. We can’t keep living this way. We always have to be working and thinking for the future.

What are your hobbies?

In my spare time I am an oil painter. I practice mostly figurative and portraiture painting. Going to studio every Thursday night and spending time with my fellow painters brings me back to the good ole days of Architecture school.

Fun Fact:

I am on my town’s Planning and Zoning Commission and I LOVE it. I plan to remain in office until I am 90.
