This biennial summit, hosted by BuildGreenCT and our Partners, brings together professionals, community organizations, policymakers, academnics, advocates, and students for cross-disciplinary conversations about sustainability and the future of the built environment.

Building in Relation with Land and Water will focus on how Indigenous wisdom and knowledge can right relationships between humans, land, and the built environment. As interconnected systems reach critical tipping points, regenerative approaches integrate the design of healthy, high-performance buildings with the renewal of our ecological and social foundations.

Themes:

• Land and water relations: creating support systems and infrastructure that adapt and respond to critical economic and ecological challenges and tipping points
• Processes: best practices for community and stakeholder engagement
• Advocacy: creating enabling policies, standards, and regulations
• Materials: developing regenerative supply chains from soil to structure and back again
• Design: creating net-positive sites, buildings, and systems that support human and ecological thriving
• Finance and economics: new financial and economic architectures
• Shelter: increasing access to stable, healthy, and affordable housing

Goals:

• Educate the building industry, legislators, advocates, and communities
• Expand understanding of the relationship between bioregional regenerative supply chains and building practices
• Establish the connections between land based nourishment and shelter
• Build local and regional capacity to solve housing challenges
• Learn from case studies, especially Tribal and non-Tribal partnerships
• Spur cross-disciplinarian collaboration among networks, organizations, and individuals
• Clarify barriers and identify win-win solutions for healthy landscapes, food systems, building supply chains, and housing
• Accelerate the just and sustainable transformation of the built environment
